Co-Location Facility Provider - Case Study
|
A major Co-Location (internet, data, telecom) facility provider required a simple and cost-effective solution to monitor equipment and critical parameters at the 58 sites they manage across the nation. These sites are fairly large (over 10,000 sq. ft. of equipment), and have multiple environmental control units, along with back-up power systems. The Falcon™ Monitoring System was incorporated into the sites as the critical monitoring solution. They presently use 5 Falcons in a Master-Slave configuration at each site, allowing 100 points to be monitored.
Monitored Parameters:
- Temperature transducers (8 sensors per site)
- Humidity transducers (8)
- UPS summary alarm (16 UPS units)
- UPS battery voltage (16)
- UPS battery on/off (16)
- Precision A/C summary alarm (12 AC units)
- Utility power supply on/off
- Internal distribution breaker open (8 breakers)
- Underfloor water detection (8 rooms)
- Generator summary alarm (2 units)
- Generator activated (2 units)
- TOTAL OF 97 POINTS MONITORED
For alarm notification, the customer chose to use the dial-up over telephone and paging capabilities. Upon alarming, the Falcon will send an alarm message to both the customer's Network Operations Center (via modem to the receiving server's modem), and a text message to a local technician's cellular phone. This customer also takes advantage of the Falcon's web interface. A local technician with the proper authorization can check the status of any site by directing a web browser to any Falcon.
